I recently ranted a bit on this subject on Facebook, and thought I might wish to articulate my thoughts a little bit better instead of simply slandering our politicians in the United States. Mind you, I guess technically, I will still be doing so (or more correctly, I will be libeling them.).

Why can’t politicians think for themselves? Why can’t they think for the best interest of their constituents? Wait, who exactly are their constituents? The American public? Absolutely not. Politicians really could give a rat’s behind about the general American population. The only thing they need us for is to get elected, and even that generally comes solely based on whether they are Republican or Democrat. Pretty much all hardcore Christians vote Republican and those who are less religious flock to the Democrat side.

Aside from their generalized stereotypes (which are for the most part accurate), pretty much every politician is owned by I like to refer to as a Corporate Pimp. These Pimps like the RIAA, MPAA, Disney, Big Oil, Telecommunication Providers, The Banking Industry, The Car Industry, and even the Hardcore Christian Fundamentalists have their bought and paid for Whores in our government doing their bidding. We have lost our country to these pimps and their whores as they have built a Corporatocracy in this country where it’s their whims and their desires that are made into law; restricting the freedoms of it’s citizens.

Bills like CISPA, PROTECT-IP, and SOPA all do not have the country’s citizens wishes and desires in mind. They are completely to strip us of any rights from the usage of the internet and any media content. This is completely appalling to me as someone who grew up watching what became the internet grow and change to the point where relevant media could be streamed online reaching a larger audience. I’m in no way suggesting that we be allowed unfettered free usage of new movies and audio. But, allowing us to use it on any of our owned devices should never be an issue; or limiting to a set number of devices. Digital Rights Management (DRM) may be considered a “necessary evil” to the Corporatocracy, but in reality, it’s not and they know it. Average users aren’t going to share their stuff, and the ones who want to — WILL regardless of whether or not it is loaded with DRM or not. All they are doing is punishing the legitimate user so that when the authentication servers die in a few years or the company goes belly-up, they’re screwed. This isn’t me making stuff up — check the internet and you will discover many services have died, along with the access to the material.

I am sick and tired of being thought of AFTER the Corporate shills get their say. This country was founded FOR the People, BY the People; NOT by Corporations. It’s time we took our country back.

Okay, I have had my Kindle Fire since December and I think I can review it properly at this point. Not only will I give my thoughts on the device itself, but also on the Amazon Appstore which is pretty much an integral part of it.

Screen

The screen is 7 inches. Compared to a 9.7 inch iPad. It does seem to be a bit small. Although, even with my fat fingers I generally have little difficulty clicking on things, except for the Android on-screen buttons at the bottom. Reading on the screen is fine because you can increase the font size in the Kindle Reading app however you like. It can be a bit troublesome to read some text in apps that do not support zooming, though if you have less than excellent eyesight.

Interface

I don’t like the carousel. It really isn’t the most handy method of finding and selecting what you want. Also, the listing of apps when you press Apps is lackluster as well. You get them sorted alphabetically or by most recent — and that’s IT! You can’t organize them by type or anything that might make sense to you — such as putting different types of apps on different screens. Having no physical sound control can be really annoying in apps that software reset it back to blisteringly loud or completely disallow access to adjusting the volume by being full screen. Sometimes the device will randomly decide to stop processing Multi-Touch until you restart the app or reboot the device. Being easily able to check for app updates is impossible… there’s no direct option in the settings — you just have to wait for it to magically appear one day.

Memory

While the somewhat generous 8GB for the price seems like a boat load of space, only about 1GB is available to the user to install apps. This fills up quickly. I mean, I bought the Humble Indie Bundle and couldn’t even install all 5 games because they wouldn’t fit. There is no option to install apps to the SD Card which is very limiting to the end user. Now, if you do only intend to use the device as an e-reader and video consumption, it will probably suit you fine, although the 5GB free after formatting on the SD Card will only get you approximately 4 movies or so.

Overall, it works. It is a bit slow running some apps. For the price point, it’s worth it.

Amazon App Store

There isn’t even remotely half the selection on the AAS as there is in Google Play, even though most apps could be side-loaded to the Kindle without issue. One prime example of this is the recent release of Angry Birds Space. The “free” non-sd version was released on Google Play and on Amazon, but specifically programmed in the Amazon Market to NOT function on the Kindle so users of the Kindle would have to buy the HD version for 2.99. The free Google Play versions works flawlessly. Amazon also loves to put “Free Apps of the Day” up claiming they are giving you something for free; yet these apps are already generally free on Google Play, but come with a price tag to Amazon App store users.

Overall, the practices of the Amazon App store coupled with the restrictiveness of the hardware make me wish I’d continued to save for an iPad. But, if you have a small budget and a want a somewhat decent tablet, the Kindle Fire is an acceptable solution.

Today, I heard a crazy noise coming out of my PC. Upon investigating the issue, I discovered that the problem was my power supply fan. Great, I thought; time to call the place I bought it and get a replacement since it had a 3 year warranty and I just bought it in February. Of course, I quickly discover that the company went belly-up a month after I bought it. Wonderful. I hadn’t had a single issue until now, so I had no reason to go to their website (or rather lack of a website), and I only discovered that they went out of business from wikipedia and there seems to be some “questionable” motives as to their disappearance from business. I felt I was safe when I made my original purchase as the company had been in business for four years, had extremely favorable reviews in all the enthusiast magazines as well as review sites, and had an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. I was wrong. I should have went with Maingear or Alienware like I was going to.

Anyway, I had to spend my Kindle money that I was going to use to buy for myself for Christmas to get a new power supply which will be here tomorrow because I have no warranty now.

I guess I would say don’t buy from Vigor Gaming, but since they don’t exist any longer, no worries, you can’t.

Due to my edema, I ended up with a rather large open wound on the back of my leg. I had to have a visiting nurse come every other day to take care of it. Plus, my breathing has not been so great either. In September, I had to spend 13 days in the hospital and they gave me a catheter. OMG it hurt so bad when they first put it in, I thought they were going to kill me. I was screaming at the top of my low-capacity lungs the entire time. Once I got out of the hospital, I felt all right for a few weeks but ended back in there on October 8th until the 21st. I do not remember the first few days, but they would not let me leave the bed the entire time.

Now that I have been out for a while, my legs still have not recovered. It hurts to stand, it hurts to sit, and it hurts to walk. But, I am able to cope with good painkillers and World of Warcraft, especially with Cataclysm releasing soon, and the Shattering has already taken place.

Anywho, I am going to try to update this more. I know I always say that, too.

Au revoir mon amie.
